SanDisk says the ULLtraDIMMs are "shipping for qualification," so enterprise types should be able to get their hands on the modules soon. On top of that, the Guardian tech includes backup capacitors, end-to-end data protection, and what appears to be a RAID-like flash redundancy scheme. The flash management algorithms are also smart enough to adapt to the changing characteristics of the NAND as it wears.

They’re rated for 10 full drive writes per day for five years, which works out to over seven petabytes for the 400GB model. Thanks to Guardian Technology, a collection of flash management features from SanDisk-owned SMART Storage Systems, ULLtraDIMMs should have excellent endurance. The modules will plug into existing servers, too. Impressively, SanDisk claims that performance scales linearly with additional modules-and that write latencies remain consistently low. Sequential I/O is pegged at 1GB/s for reads and 760MB/s for writes, so these puppies are pretty fast all around. AUTOMATICALLY BACKUP PHOTOS AND VIDEOS Set the app to automatically copy photos and videos from your camera roll to the drive when the drive is connected. The modules are said to deliver 150k random read IOps and 65k random writes. Upload, download, save, share and play all your stuff from a distance, to and from the device you want to use. SanDisk claims a read latency of 150 µs and a write latency of under 5 µs. Putting the flash right next to the CPU gives the ULLtraDIMMs especially low latency. SanDisk is rolling out individual modules with 200GB and 400GB of 19-nm MLC flash storage. They’re also available in much larger capacities.

Traditional DIMMs are based on volatile DRAM memory that doesn’t hold data when the power is cut, but ULLtraDIMMs retain their, ahem, memory when unpowered.

Instead of serving up flash storage via Serial ATA or PCI Express, the ULLtraDIMM takes a more direct path to the CPU through its memory interface. We’ll indulge the funky capitalization, because the concept is kind of cool. The file I tried to delete is still there so it makes me wonder if it was the tool was the cause of the corruption. It’s an SSD, it’s a DIMM, it’s… both? SanDisk’s new ULLtraDIMM storage device puts non-volatile flash on a DDR3 memory module.

If there is no way to fix it, can anyone tell me if the Mac was possibly the cause? The problem started after I used a tool on Mac OSX Lion to find the largest file and then tried to use the tool to delete it. Should I copy every file off one by one or is there a way to fix it? I've tried with all the different options on windows, I tried formatting it through CMD, but nothing I have tried works. When I have tried to format it with either the PC, PSP, or a camera that uses a memory stick pro duo, it fails. The memory card access light will flash for a really long time before it says that every file is corrupted. If I reinsert the card I can move on to the next file, but this is really annoying and my PSP won't read it at all. When I put it in my PC I can open/delete/copy/paste/rename/modify one file/folder, then it can't detect the card.

I have a Memory Stick Pro Duo and after attempting to delete the largest file from a Mac the stick has become unusable.
